The project

‘NEXT’ is the generic name for a series of festivals that deal with the finest films made in the major film schools around the world which give us a clear indication about next-generation cinema. It also includes youth film-making outside the boundary of film schools and goes beyond the general notion of a film festival in that the screenings are always followed by intense discussions between students and teachers.

The first edition was called ‘NEXT: Global Shorts’ and was hosted by Whistling Woods International Film Institute in Mumbai’s Film City (July/2012) and will be followed by ‘NEXT: Ibero-American Shorts’ (Delhi/2012), another edition of ‘Global Shorts’ in Pune (FTII, Feb/2013) and ‘NEXT: Indian Shorts’ (across several cities of Europe and Latin America).

Every edition of the festival is unique and the partners keep changing depending on the location, the host and the availability of new material. However, the curators remain the same.

The intention is also to create a global network between the film schools in order to create opportunities for student collaborations/coproductions, faculty and student exchange programmes.
